Salespeople love to give their opinion -- and it costs you very little in terms of time to ask them for it and listen to their answers...
a) Ask the salespeople to find three things that they feel any radio competitor, in market or out, does a better job at than your station, and review individually. This will yield either three things that you genuinely could address to improve the station that would matter to the sellers, or reveal areas that are the source of unfounded lack of confidence for the your seller that you can work on without notifying them for the benefit of both of you! Plus a good reminder to be respectful of your sellers.
b) Ask the salespeople their three favorite things about your air talent -- that you are going to read to the air talent in the next programming meeting.
