Majority Of Super Bowl Viewers Will Be Using Social Media
January 29, 2019
As consumers become more and more social during live events, experiencing these moments with mobile devices in their faces, it couldn't be a more important time to have something dynamic flowing through social media news feeds. And Super Bowl is one of those huge live events to play out across social media every year. It's like one giant dysfunctional family getting together for the Big Game

As consumers become more and more social during live events, experiencing these moments with mobile devices in their faces, it couldn't be a more important time to have something dynamic flowing through social media news feeds.
And Super Bowl is one of those huge live events to play out across social media every year.
It's like one giant dysfunctional family getting together for the Big Game.
Last year - Super Bowl 52 generated 170.7 million interactions across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Neilson Social noted the top three most social minutes:
10:20 ET pm: 240,000 Twitter interactions occurred as the Eagles won.
8:35 ET pm: 150,000 Twitter interactions discussing the Halftime Show
10:06 ET pm: 129,000 Twitter interactions on Tom Brady's fourth-quarter fumble. As you plan out how you'll participate this Sunday - remember, the best use of social isn't a play-by-play account of what's happening, but rather commentary (or snark) on the highlights with the use of video, still-shots, memes, gifs, emojis and of course your wit.
Below is a list of different ways to make The Big Game a shared experience.
Plan For:
- Predictable moments
Coin toss
Halftime show
Timeouts
Conclusion of the Game
- Anticipated moments
Fumbles
Interceptions
Touchdown Celebrations
Camera Crew Catching Funny Fan Expressions
- Unexpected moments
The moments no one saw coming often become highly talked about.
For example - refs blowing calls (actually, that should be under the predictable moments), or do you remember #SelfieKid from last year's Super Bowl Halftime Show?
Pay attention to Twitter's Trending Topics and jump in when appropriate.
Ride The Hashtag
Use official hashtags like #SBLIII
Game Face
Ask fans to tweet their game face during your "Big Game Roll Call." Where are they watching the game from? 'Like' or retweet to acknowledge them.
Twitter Polls
This is a fun way to weave into the conversation. Questions are limitless:
- Who will commit the most penalties?
- Best Player of the Year?
- Best Commercial?
- Will Brady wear his UGGs to the game?
- How long will the national anthem last?
Big Game Bingo Card
It's a fun way to interact at parties.
The game is played just like regular bingo, with Big Game happenings instead of numbers. When you see or hear one of the events or people on your bingo card, X the spot. When you have five in a row, yell Bingo!
Here are three versions of printable Bingo Cards:
