The Best Way To Review And Revive Your Social Media For 2022
November 30, 2021
-
Before you dive into the first-rate thought-starters around reporting on and revitalizing your social media assets for the New Year – I urge you to take a minute to read about the graph below.
It comes from James Clear’s “Atomic Habits.”
The graph depicts the importance of persevering in building better habits.
Look at the red space Clear calls the “valley of disappointment.” The “valley of disappointment” represents the frustration that happens when we commit to working smarter at something (in this case, social media), and the results feel a bit small for months and months.
Here’s why frustration (the “valley of disappointment”) is smack in the middle of what you think should be happening and what actually happens.
Somewhere along the way – a misconception was formed that if you’re on social media every day – you’ll have lots of likes and fans and reach millions.
But social media is lifelong learning.
And it starts with having the right systems in place and perseverance.
If you do commit to the resources we offer below – go slow.
Success is little wins along the way that leads to more meaningful and memorable moments.
Four Areas Every Brand Should Be Supervising & Strengthening Into 2022:
Systems
Goals
Content
Facts
Systems
What habits have you developed on social media?
How is your fan response plan? Do you have one? Every person counts - is everyone getting acknowledged?
How balanced is the style and type of social media you create?
How (specifically) consistent is your posting pattern?
Do you use content pillars?
Is content brand-aligned?
Is there a ‘why’ you’re even using social media in the first place?Goals
What are the metrics that matter?
How are you leveraging those metrics?
Are you tracking the right metrics?
Are you on the right platforms? Do you know for sure?
Or are you stretching efforts on too many platforms?
If you have any “parked” accounts, what do they look like?Content
What are your content goals?
Is content sitting old and idle (especially on Instagram)?
Why keep aging content posted? Is there immediate value to any aged content?
If the older content does provide value – Is there a plan in place to save/archive to bring back at a later stage?
Are expired #ads still posted? Is there a plan in place to remove expired #ads?
How often are you studying audience signals?
Do you know what type of brand-aligned content resonates? Increases new fans?
Do you know the type of content that has made fans unfollow/unlike you?
Have you committed to video + vertical, short-form video in 2022?
If so, write out the plan? (Make it easy – that’s how it becomes a habit)Facts
Look at the information on your accounts
Optimize bios (local brands – don’t overlook having your city in the bio)
Use a grammar-checking program (Grammarly-free version is good), make sure your text is professional
Update the “about” & contact sections
Revise (or add) an effective call-to-action button
Audit admins, moderators – anyone who has access/passwords to your accounts
Review apps you’ve given permission to on each social account – delete any apps no longer relevant to your needs
Refresh profile and cover images
Check your vanity URL – does it need to be amended?
Is your pinned post or tweet or highlighted Stories outdated?Persevere as you begin building better habits. Perseverance is how we eventually experience points where progress becomes so satisfying.
