GREATER MEDIA Talk WBT-A-F/CHARLOTTE morning host AL GARDNER is exiting to join MERLIN MEDIA as VP of Programming of its latest acquisition, WKDN/CAMDEN-PHILADELPHIA. GARDNER told the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER's MARK WASHBURN that he will leave "CHARLOTTE'S MORNING NEWS" at the end of the month to return to his native city to work at MERLIN's new station.
"This is a pinch-me job," GARDNER, who has been consulting MERLIN while at WBT, told WASHBURN. "It couldn't be better." GREATER MEDIA is releasing GARDNER from his contract a year early, and WBT PD CARL EAST told WASHBURN that sports anchor JIM SZOKE will increase his role on the show alongside STACEY SIMMS to replace GARDNER.
