Triple A innovator and radio industry vet JERRY GERARD, 52, passed away in MIAMI after a six-month battle with cancer. He is survived by his mother, JOANNE WINN. She asks that all donations in his memory go to the THELONIOUS MONK INSTITUTE OF JAZZ with a follow up e-mail to bjones@monkinstitute.org.
In 1979, GERARD started his radio career at WCCF/PUNTA GORDA, FL, and from there he moved to KRGI/GRAND ISLAND, NE to do overnights. He moved back to FLORIDA in 1980, where is worked throughout the decade at WCEZ/WEST PALM BEACH, WINZ/MIAMI, and then to WSVN-TV/Miami. In 1991, he returned to radio at news-talk, WMBM/MIAMI BEACH. From 1993-1998, he was PD and on-air host at Triple A WRRX (97 X)/GAINESVILLE, FL. From 2000-2003, GERARD worked at Triple A WRVG/GEORGETOWN, KY, then helped found Triple A WUIN (THE PENGUIN)/WILMINGTON, NC, along with MARK KEEFE. He was at THE PENGUIN for three years.
His last stop was at noncomm Triple A WNRN/CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, as News Director in 2007. He then also took over as midday host. He left radio and moved to HIGHLAND, NC in MAY 2009.
