As previously reported (NET NEWS 12/19), BREWER WPLZ/CHATTANOOGA has dropped its News-Talk format. The station flipped to Country as “CAT COUNTRY 95.3” on MONDAY (1/2). JOSH WEBER, who exited from CLEAR CHANNEL Country WUSY/CHATTANOOGA in MARCH 2011, has taken PD duties. The station is currently running jockless, but air staff announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
President JIM BREWER said, ““We’re excited to bring ‘CAT COUNTRY’ to CHATTANOOGA as an alternative for Country music listeners. A year ago when ‘THE DUKE’ left the format, they also left a huge audience without a home. An example is with women 18-49; WUSY had a 9.8% share while ‘THE DUKE’ had a 5.7% share. Today with ‘THE DUKE’ gone, WUSY has rebounded to a 17.6% share. We feel that with our signal from atop SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, we can be very competitive and take a great deal of those share points."
A live stream of the station may be found at www.catcountry953.com and and JOSH WEBER can be reached at joshw@brewerradio.com.
