The NHL's TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING will remain on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WFLA-A/TAMPA and ARENA FOOTBALL's TAMPA BAY STORM will remain on sister Talk WHNZ-A (with some games on Sports WDAE-A (THE SPORTS ANIMAL)) under a new three-year deal between TAMPA BAY SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT and CLEAR CHANNEL. CLEAR CHANNEL will also get ownership of the "Cage Club" at the teams' arena, the recently-rechristened TAMPA BAY TIMES FORUM (formerly the ICE PALACE and ST. PETE TIMES FORUM, renamed when the paper changed its name on JANUARY 1st).
"We are pleased to announce the partnership extension with CLEAR CHANNEL MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT today," said the teams' COO, STEVE GRIGGS. "The CLEAR CHANNEL team has offered TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING and TAMPA BAY STORM fans great radio stations for years and we are excited to announce that the LIGHTNING will be the primary play-by-play sports focus of 970 WFLA for the next three years."
"CLEAR CHANNEL is very excited to renew our partnership with the TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING," said CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO TAMPA Pres./Market Manager SAM NEIN. "970 WFLA will make a great radio home for the BOLTS for many years to come. The ownership and the team of professionals that comprise the TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING are the very best in class by anyone's standards. CLEAR CHANNEL MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT is proud to be associated with them!"
