Rep. GREG WALDEN (R-OR), Chairman of the House Communications Subcommittee, told reporters WEDNESDAY that the bill reforming FCC processes will be marked up by the full House Energy and Commerce Committee on FEBRUARY 7th.
THE HILL reports that WALDEN said of the FCC, "It's beginning to feel like it's another tool of the WHITE HOUSE." He said he "would hope that (the Democrat-controlled) Senate would be supportive" of the bill. He also said that he was "dismayed" by FCC Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI's criticism of his spectrum auction bill, which GENACHOWSKI said could lead to Congress "micromanaging" the Commission and the largest wireless companies getting all the auctioned spectrum; WALDEN said that the Commission "wants to pick winners and losers, it seems to me. All I can figure is that they're going to exclude one or both of the major carriers."
