BELL MEDIA's OTTAWA radio and TV cluster was hit by layoffs THURSDAY, with the CBC reporting that 16 employees were let go in total. Eleven of those were radio staffers (nine full-time, two part-time), including Talk CFRA-A 1-3p (ET) host MICHAEL HARRIS, AC CJMJ (MAGIC 100) host STEVE BOYTON, CFRA reporter GORD MCDOUGALL, and others. The OTTAWA CITIZEN adds the names of morning "THREE GUYS ON THE RADIO" co-host JIM JEROME, midday "SPORTSCALL" co-host PHIL MELANSON, and fill-in host/commentator MIKE SUTHERLAND at Sports CFGO-A (TEAM 1200), CFRA Marketing Director AL MCCARTNEY, Adult Hits CKKL (93.9 BOB-FM) host TINA SAPP, and CTV affiliate CJOH-TV (CTV OTTAWA) Promotion Manager BRENT CORBEIL.
RVP RICHARD GRAY told the staff in an email that the move was "purely for business reasons and was unavoidable ... Despite having to make such a difficult decision today, we believe we have managed to keep our operation incredibly strong."
