The HOUSTON ASTROS are bringing in a rotation of former players to join incumbent radio voices BRETT DOLAN, DAVE RAYMOND and the retiring MILO HAMILTON this season in observance of the team's 50th anniversary season, reports the HOUSTON CHRONICLE's DAVID BARRON. The team did not disclose any names for the role and did not directly say that the appearances will be tryouts but indicated that the radio announcer arrangements are open for 2013 and beyond.
"One of the things we have heard early and often from season-ticket holders and others is that they would like to see more player involvement," ASTROS Pres. GEORGE POSTOLOS. "We're going to experiment with that this year, and we have a natural platform with our flashback FRIDAYS and our SATURDAY games. We'll involve some of our former players. A number of them have talent and have been on the air before. That will give us a chance to experiment and see what is most attractive. We want to put the best team on the field in 2013 and also the best broadcasters on the air."
HAMILTON is retiring after the season and will handle a limited schedule this year; the team will be moving from the NATIONAL LEAGUE to the AMERICAN LEAGUE for the 2013 season.
