CORUS has pulled the plug on its attempt to compete in the Sports format in VANCOUVER, flipping CHMJ-A (MOJO RADIO) to a general talk format as "AM 730."
CORUS had moved the station from "talk for guys" to Sports in 2004 in an attempt to compete with crosstown CHUM LTD. Sports CKST-A (TEAM 1040), but ended the format at Noon PT TUESDAY in favor of what the station is calling "continuous drive-time traffic and the best of talk." The station is playing promos and music snippets until the formal relaunch on MONDAY (6/5).
The station will be airing programming from CORUS sister Talk CKNW-A on a delayed basis, including "The Best of BILL GOOD" Noon-3p weekdays and repeats of SPORTSTALK with DAN RUSSELL from the previous night for 9a-Noon. GIANTS junior hockey, WHITECAPS soccer, and SEATTLE SEAHAWKS NFL football will continue to air on AM 730.
In the move, 14 staffers, including high profile sports talkers BOB MARJANOVICH, JOHN MCKEACHIE, J.P. MCCONNELL, JEFF PATERSON, and BLAKE PRICE, have exited the station.
