The FCC has fined SOUTH SEAS BROADCASTING $18,000 for operating now-deleted WVUV-A/LEONE, AMERICAN SAMOA from an unauthorized site, going silent without proper authorization, and failing to respond to Commission communications.
The fine came after the DISTRICT COUNCIL ASSEMBLIES OF GOD filed a Petition to Deny the station's license renewal application. SOUTH SEAS alleged that DISTRICT COUNCIL's own station, Religion KJAL-A/TAFUNA, AS, is a "hotbed of rule violations" but the FCC said it did not provide specific evidence to support the allegations. WVUV's license was canceled in 2011 after it did not file its license renewal application; the present fine is based on the previous renewal period and SOUTH SEAS' response to it in 2008.
