Condolences to the family and friends of JOHN D. WILSON, a veteran radio broadcaster and COLONIAL BROADCASTING COMPANY Sr. Partner/Pres., who passed away this morning. He was 85.
WILSON came to WFLO/FARMVILLE, VA as a sales representative in 1950 after serving overseas in the U.S. Army. He was named GM in 1953 and held that post until semi-retirement 37 years later when he became management consultant to his successor, GENE EIKE. EIKE held the position until the time of his death ten years later. WILSON resumed general management of WFLO for a year following EIKE's death before naming FRANCIS WOOD as GM in 2001. He continued as a management consultant until his passing.
WILSON's 37 year run as GM at the same station was a state record among broadcasting executives in 1989.
