talkSPORT Eyes Asia Expansion

UTV national U.K. Sports station talkSPORT plans to expand to ASIA, the company's Director of Strategy JIMMY BUCKLAND announced at the RADIO ASIA 2012 conference in JAKARTA.  The station plans to partner with local broadcasters in Asian countries to create stations in the region, using the station's international radio rights to BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE soccer for the next four seasons. Initial markets include JAKARTA, SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, and THAILAND, with INDIA and the PHILIPPINES to follow and more to be added as they become available in markets in CHINA and INDIA.

In a press release, BUCKLAND said, "ASIA's passion for sport and dynamic radio industry makes it the perfect market to replicate talkSPORT's success in the UK. We are excited about the opportunity to work with partners in INDONESIA and across ASIA to realize this ambition and look forward to announcing our first new FM radio service showcasing the best of local and international sport."
