NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO's NEW JERSEY PUBLIC RADIO network of four stations in NORTH and CENTRAL JERSEY acquired from the former state-owned NEW JERSEY NETWORK has inked a partnership with MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY to make the school the headquarters for the radio stations' newsroom. The arrangement, which will also provide news for the organization's noncommercial News-Talk WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK, is being funded in part by the GERALDINE DODGE FOUNDATION and follows a similar arrangement by which NJTV, the entity created to take over the state's four TV stations from NEW JERSEY NETWORK, located its newsroom on campus.
"When NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO launched NJPR last year, we vowed to extend the reach of our already significant news coverage of NEW JERSEY," said NYPR Pres./CEO LAURA WALKER. "We are delighted to expand our presence in the state through this exciting partnership with MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY. The NJPR News bureau will better equip us to produce the kind of in-depth news and public affairs journalism WNYC is already known for among New Jerseyans."
"MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY is extremely pleased to provide a NEW JERSEY home for the NJPR News bureau," said University President SUSAN A. COLE. "With a strong history of preparing media industry professionals and growing programs in the field, this most recent media collaboration further enhances our academic programs within the School of Communication and Media, providing our students with invaluable hands-on learning in a professional, on-campus setting."
"The people of NEW JERSEY are the real winners here, and I commend LAURA and SUSAN for joining together to serve the state," DODGE FOUNDATION Pres./CEO CHRIS DAGGETT added. "As an organization that supports the innovative use of media to educate and engage the NEW JERSEY public, the Foundation is proud to be the first to show its support. We hope and expect that other foundations and organizations will be equally supportive of the efforts by NYPR and MONTCLAIR STATE to enhance the journalistic landscape in NEW JERSEY."
