CLEAR CHANNEL is expected to take control of WFNX/BOSTON from PHOENIX MEDIA/COMMUNICATIONS GROUPin late-JULY, ending nearly 30 years of the legendary independent Alternative station (NET NEWS 5/16).
WFNX Director Of Operations MIKE SNOW told ALL ACCESS, "Our last day on-air will be JULY 21st complete with a party at the station for the final hours. We have not confirmed the exact day and time CC will take over with the FCC. We are playing it safe and picking our last day within the 60 to 90-day takeover time to make sure we do it right and the listeners get a chance to experience it the way we want them to. There will only be music after that with no more jocks of any kind."
BOSTON PHOENIX music editor MICHAEL MAROTTA, who hosts the SUNDAY night local show BOSTON ACCENTS, has a "FUNERAL PARTY" planned over three nights, JULY 23rd-JULY 25th, with local bands performing each night at GREAT SCOTT.
