News of PHOENIX MEDIA/COMMUNICATIONS GROUP Alternative WFNX/BOSTON’s sale to CLEAR CHANNEL has rocked BOSTON’s music scene and beyond. Former ‘FNX DJs and the area's most respected musicians have banded together to celebrate the station’s 29-year history and aid a most worthy cause.
WE WANT THE AIRWAVES: A WFNX TRIBUTE hits THE PARADISE ROCK CLUB on SATURDAY, JUNE 30th featuring local favorites O POSITIVE, ORBIT, PARLOUR BELLS and GARVEY J will perform. Past and present ‘FNX DJs PAUL DRISCOLL, ADAM 12, BRUCE MCDONALD, DUANE BRUCE and MIKE GIOSCIA will spin sets throughout the night. In addition, the upcoming documentary WE WANT THE AIRWAVES, produced by former WFNX staffers, will be previewed.
A WFNX "Alumni" FACEBOOK group provided the event’s impetus. "Once our initial shock passed, we wanted to do something, anything, to pay tribute to our former radio home and at the same time give something back," explained former WFNX MD BRUCE MCDONALD. "It came together organically and very quickly. People are eager to help. They seem to really need this."
