KANKAKEE VALLEY BROADCASTING AC WKVI (K-99.3)/KNOX, IN morning host TOM BERG is planning to stay on the air for 187 hours straight, in an attempt to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for longest continuous radio broadcast by a single host. The current record is 183 hours, or just over a week, held by an Italian DJ who did it in MAY 2009.
BERG's attempt is scheduled to begin at 5a MONDAY, JULY 9th. If he does succeed, the record will be broken on MONDAY, JULY 16th at midnight.
BERG has contacted GUINNESS WORLD RECORD officials in LONDON to find out the rules that need to be followed for the attempt to be official. One rules is that two people other than BERG have to be in the building, witnessing his attempt.
"This is a record that needs to return to the U.S.," BERG said. "And I'm just the DJ to do it."
