The FCC has rejected the appeal of GREAT LAKES COMMUNITY BROADCASTING of the denial of its renewal applications for noncommercial WJKQ/JACKSON, MI and WAQQ/ONSTED, MI and sale of WJKQ to JACKSON LANSING CATHOLIC RADIO, and has also rejected the renewals of FM translators W206AZ/FREMONT, MI and W206BF and W220CW/ROGERS HEIGHTS, MI.
The Commission cited an "extensive history of violations" of the Communications Act and Commission rules, including false claims of constructing stations in accordance with permits when, in reality, the stations were either not built or constructed at variance with authorized parameters. The order also noted that WJKQ has never operated from its authorized site and may have been silent without authorization for more than a year. The stations have been deleted from the FC database.
In addition, the Commission has entered a consent decree with TAMA BROADCASTING GROUP OF SOUTH CAROLINA, LLC, over antenna lighting outages at three towers in SAN SOUCI, SC. TAMA will pay a "voluntary contribution" of $1,000 to the U.S. Treasury to settle the case.
