The BBC has named BBC VISION Dir. GEORGE ENTWISTLE as its new Dir. General, starting on SEPTEMBER 17th.
ENTWISTLE, a veteran of the BBC since 1989 and former producer, editor, and BBC FOUR Acting Controller who was selected by a panel of the BBC TRUST, will take over the post held by MARK THOMPSON, who announced his resignation, after eight years, in MARCH.
The board is also cutting the pay for the position from 771,000 pounds to 450,000 pounds, responding to pressure to cut executive salaries at the network.
