A Petition to Deny the sale of noncommercial Classical WRVU/NASHVILLE by VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY to NASHVILLE PUBLIC RADIO has been filed by an opposition group, "WRVU FRIENDS AND FAMILY."
The filing by attorneys MICHAEL COUZENS and ALAN KORN alleges that VANDERBILT STUDENT COMMUNICATIONS exceeded its legal authority in selling the station to the owner of crosstown noncommercial WPLN, asserting that the organization's corporate charter and bylaws prohibit the sale, the vote to sell the station followed "substantial and abrupt changes to its board’s voting majority membership" of which it did not notify the FCC, and other issues.
"Renewal under these circumstances is simply not in the public interest,” the group said in a press release. “We are confident that the FCC will give due consideration to the issues we raise and will ultimately reject VSC’s renewal application while the agreements with WPLN are in place.”
WPLN has been operating WRVU since JUNE 7th, 2011.
