TRIBUNE Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO has sold off its record collection to DUSTY GROOVE AMERICA, a CHICAGO record store and online retailer, reports the CHICAGO TRIBUNE.
The records, numbering about 45,000, are being sold as the station moves to smaller space in the TRIBUNE TOWER. Store owner RICK WOJCIK told the TRIBUNE, "I saw records in that collection I've never seen before. I've seen records in that collection I've never seen original copies of before."
PD BILL WHITE said in an e-mail to the TRIBUNE, "With the advent of the Internet and digital music, the record library had become obsolete and was no longer being used. Rather than have it sit in off-site storage, we decided to put it in the hands of a true collector."
Records not purchased by DUSTY GROOVE will be donated to the CHICAGO INDEPENDENT RADIO PROJECT, which operates an online station and hosts an annual record fair.
