talkSPORT Inks FA Cup Deal

UTV national U.K. Sports station talkSPORT has inked a deal for broadcast rights to FA CUP soccer matches through the 2017-18 season. The deal includes international rights and rights to the annual season-opening Community Shield match and selected ENGLAND International friendly matches. The matches will air on talkSPORT domestically and on the station's new talkSPORT LIVE international service via the Internet, mobile apps, and through international broadcast partners ... talkSPORT joins incumbent BBC RADIO 5 LIVE in airing FA CUP matches.
CEO SCOTT TAUNTON said, “Today’s announcement clearly positions talkSPORT as the leading commercial sports radio station worldwide. The FA CUP is the original and most historic cup competition in the world ... The opportunity to broadcast FA CUP games internationally has been a key part of our global plans for talkSPORT Live and today’s rights announcement opens up the European market to us. We are in the process of creating a network of global radio and distribution partners for talkSPORT Live.”

FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION General Secretary ALEX HORNE said, “We’re delighted that two high profile broadcasters in BBC 5 LIVE and talkSPORT will be bringing The FA CUP with BUDWEISER, ENGLAND internationals and the Community Shield to large audiences nationwide."
