The HOUSTON ASTROS have announced a contest to find a radio "apprentice" to work on the station's game broadcasts on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KTRH-A/HOUSTON as a roving reported and pre-game and post-game interviewer.
The "YOU MAKE THE CALL" contest is taking entrants online now through AUGUST 7th, with all contestants to take part in an interview process at MINUTE MAID PARK on AUGUST 13th, judged by ASTROS broadcaster and former pitcher and manager LARRY DIERKER, FOX SPORTS HOUSTON's PATTI SMITH, former NBC affiliate KPRC-TV and FOX O&O KRIV-TV (FOX 26) anchor LINDA LORELLE, HOUSTON CHRONICLE columnist KEN HOFFMAN, CLEAR CHANNEL Market Manager EDDIE MARTINY, ASTROS VP/Marketing and Strategy KATHLEEN CLARK, and ASTROS SVP JAMIE HILDRETH.
Ten finalists will do interviews with players during the AUGUST 17th-19th series with ARIZONA, and, after a fan vote with judges' input, four semi-finalists will make live, on-air appearances during an ASTROS game between AUGUST 30th and SEPTEMBER 2nd. Another fan and judge vote will pick two finalists who will appear in the SEPTEMBER 13th and 14th broadcasts and a winner will emerge after a SEPTEMBER 16th-24th vote. The winner will work on ASTROS broadcasts during the 2013 season as the club moves to the AMERICAN LEAGUE Western Division.
“We’re very excited about this concept for a number of reasons,” ASTROS Pres./CEO GEORGE POSTOLOS said. “This is another way for us to engage with our fans in a fun and entertaining way. Not only do they have the chance to help select someone that they can connect with, they also have the opportunity to enter this competition. It really is a very unique opportunity that we think our fans will be excited about.”
