ENTERCOM Talk WRKO-A/BOSTON's "big announcement" at 4p (ET) TODAY was the return of PREMIERE's RUSH LIMBAUGH show to WRKO's lineup, effective a week from MONDAY (8/6). Current middayer MICHELLE MCPHEE will join TODD FEINBURG in mornings; the station is retaining the brokered "FINANCIAL EXCHANGE" show with BARRY ARMSTRONG for 9-11a and JEFF KUHNER will handle 11a-noon.
The surprise announcement leaves the future of crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WXKS-A (TALK 1200)/BOSTON up in the air; LIMBAUGH's show moved from WRKO to TALK 1200 (initially RUSH RADIO 1200) in 2010. LIMBAUGH himself called into HOWIE CARR's afternoon show TODAY to make the announcement. PREMIERE's "COAST TO COAST AM" is also making the move back to WRKO.
And by MONDAY evening, local talkers JEFF KATZ and JAY SEVERIN had already been removed from the TALK 1200 website, which now shows a taped edition of the PREMIERE-syndicated "AMERICA NOW WITH ANDY DEAN" in KATZ' morning drive slot and PREMIERE's SEAN HANNITY in SEVERIN's afternoon position.
