Condolences to family and friends of longtime station owner and media broker DONALD "DON" ROBERTS JR., who died JULY 23rd, 2012 in KESWICK, VA at 85.
ROBERTS, a NEW YORK native who grew up in PELHAM, NY and WINNETKA, IL, attended the UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS and joined ad firm FOOTE, CONE AND BELDING after serving in WORLD WAR II, then worked for PETERS, GRIFFIN AND WOODWARD before joining his father's ROTO FORGER CORP. in ROCKFORD, IL, later partnering in the MINOCQUA MARINE MART in MINOCQUA, WI. He bought WJMS-A-WIMI/IRONWOOD, MI and WJMT-A-WMZK/MERRILL, WI and later operated WENE-A-WMRV/ENDICOTT, NY and WMID-A-WGRF/ATLANTIC CITY, NJ for MERV GRIFFIN's GRIFFIN GROUP. After selling the stations, he became a broker with KOZACKO MEDIA SERVICES.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION, AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, CHILDREN'S TUMOR FOUNDATION, or HOSPICE OF THE PIEDMONT.
