San Francisco -- KMEL Rides The Summer Train
CCM+E Top 40/Rhythmic KMEL climbed to a 6+ share of 6.3, its highest in over a year. With a 6+ share of 5.6, Noncommercial News/Talk KQED was up for its second straight book and grabbed the #2 spot. A virtual tie for third between CBS RADIO Top 40/Mainstream KMVQ (99.7 NOW), CBS RADIO All-News KCBS-A and CUMULUS Sports KNBR-A. Also a strong showing for UNIVISION Regional Mexican KSOL (ESTÉREO SOL), which continued to climbl its 4.1 share was its best 6+ position in over a year. Dropping out of the top 12 6+ station was CUMULUS News/Talk KGO-A with a 2.6 share in JULY.
As with 6+, KMEL led the market with 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. Also in the top three and delivering its best 25-54 book in over a year was CCM+E Hot AC KIOI (STAR 101.3).
Houston/Galveston -- Radio One’s 1-2 Punch
Clearly there is a taste for the Urban format in HOUSTON. RADIO ONE again grabbed the top two 6+ spots with Top 40/Mainstream KBXX (97.9 THE BOX) at an 8.7 share and Urban AC KMJQ (MAJIC 102.1) with a 6.9 share. The next two spots were occupied by CCM+E AC KODA (SUNNY 99.1) and UNIVISION Regional Mexican KLTN (ESTÉREO LATINO 102.9). With a 4.4 share, COX RADIO Country KKBQ (THE NEW 93Q) was on a two-book uptrend.
With its best 18-34 and 18-49 book in over a year, KBXX dominated these two demos. In both demos, KLTN grabbed the second spot. These two stations flip-flopped with 25-54 as KLTN was tops, followed by KBXX.
Dallas/Ft. Worth -- Top 40 Continues To Roll
Four different formats grabbed the top-four 6+ spots in DALLAS last month. CCM+E Top 40/Mainstream KHKS (106.1 KISS FM) turned in its best book in over a year with a 6+ 8.1, giving them the crown of market leader. Also with its best book in 2012 was CUMULUS Country KPLX (99.5 THE WOLF). Rounding out the top four were SALEM Christian Contemporary KLTY (94.9 KLTY) and CBS RADIO Classic Hits KLUV (98.7 K-LUV). Spanish-language top performer was UNIVISION Regional Mexican KLNO (LA QUÉ BUENA) with a 3.9 share.
Like many other markets, Top 40 grabbed the top spot in many demos. KHKS took the gold with 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54.
Philadelphia -- Photo Finish for Gold
Only 0.1 share point separated the top three 6+ stations in PHILADELPHIA. CBS RADIO Classic Hits WOGL inched out sister News/Talk KYW-A and long-time leader AC WBEB (B101). It does not look like KYW got much of a boost from the severe summer storms in the Northeast. Both CCM+E Top 40/Mainstream WIOQ (Q102) and BEASLEY Country WXTU (92.5 XTU) deliver edstrong surveys, putting them in the top six. They had 6+ shares of 5.7 and 5.5 respectively.
CCM+E Alternative WRFF (Radio 104.5) skyrocketed in JULY to take the top spot with both 18-34 and 18-49. GREATER MEDIA Active Rock WMMR beat out WBEB for the top place with Adults 25-54.
