CUMULUS MEDIA Oldies WLS/CHICAGO is bringing back CHI-TOWN radio icon FRED WINSTON on AUGUST 26th to do a three-hour air shift (9p-midnight), ROBERT FEDER from TIMEOUT CHICAGO reports. CUMULUS SVP/Programming JAN JEFFRIES intimated that should the shift go well and WINSTON is up for it, it could lead to a regular shift on the station.
"I’ve always been a super-fan of FRED WINSTON," JEFFRIES said. "It will be a pleasure to hear him back on WLS."
"The plan is to blow the carbon and dust balls out of the pipes that SUNDAY night and see how it feels and then go from there," said WINSTON, 66, who is still recovering from quadruple bypass surgery last MAY. "I’d love for it to be a regular gig. At the risk of creating a pun, I’ve still got a lot of gas in the tank.
"I am up for challenges because there is no bigger challenge than recovery from this [bypass]," he continued. "Now I am up for the challenge to be entertaining and relevant within today’s new [PPM-based] formatic guidelines."
