The price for EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS' purchase of Sports WSDM-F and WSDX-A/BRAZIL-TERRE HAUTE, IN is $335,000, according to the paperwork filed with the FCC. The price was undisclosed when announced YESTERDAY (NET NEWS 8/22). EMMIS assumes operation of the stations on SEPTEMBER 1st.
It's now official, as the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS has purchased Classic Hits-Oldies KXBT (AUSTIN'S GREATEST HITS)/AUSTIN from BORDER MEDIA PARTNERS (BMP AUSTIN LICENSE COMPANY, L.P.) for $6 million. The deal has been subject to an extended on-again, off-again vote of the school's Board of Regents but is now moving forward.
The university plans to use the new signal, re-dubbed KUTX, to split music and news with noncommercial KUT/AUSTIN, with one signal airing News and Talk programming and the other most likely an eclectic music format tied to the school's CACTUS CAFE live music venue.
GREG GUY of PATRICK COMMUNICATIONS (whose principal LARRY PATRICK serves as Trustee of BMP) was exclusive broker for the deal.
In other filings with the FCC, HOWARD MONROE's MONROE COMMUNICATIONS, LLC is selling Talk WVLY-A/MOUNDSVILLE-WHEELING, WV to RCK 1 GROUP, LLC for $130,000 plus a time brokerage agreement before closing. The buyer also owns Talk WKKX-A/WHEELING.
A court order has directed DEBUT BROADCASTING MISSISSIPPI, INC. to transfer Country WBBV (RIVER 101.3)/VICKSBURG, MS to HOLLADAY BROADCASTING OF LOUISIANA, LLC as part of the court's enforcement of a settlement agreement that it determined DEBUT had breached. HOLLADAY sued DEBUT last FALL alleging a default on an $800,000 promissory note.
EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION is selling FM translator K219KU/NEHALEM, OR to MEDIA INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE for $10,000. EMF has also applied for an extension of its Silent STA for WGCQ/HAYTI, MO while it moves the station to a new tower.
And POWER BROADCASTING, LLC has closed on the sale of Classic Rock KNOU/EMPIRE, LA to MICHAEL A. COSTELLO's M.A.C. BROADCASTING, LLC for $350,000.
