Report: Holland-based MP3 Site Shut Down

HOLLAND-based music website www.zoekmp3.nl has been shut down after Dutch courts ruled last week that the site infringes on artist rights and copyrights, reports REUTERS. The site, operated by TECHNO DESIGN, linked visitors to MP3 files without permission of the copyright owner, which is illegal under Dutch law.

"There has been concern that HOLLAND could become a center of Internet piracy, but this decision shows that the Dutch courts will not tolerate websites building a business out of facilitating copyright infringement," said INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PHONOGRAM AND VIDEOGRAM PRODUCERS (IFPI) General Counsel GEOFF TAYLOR.
