TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Talk WKXW (NEW JERSEY 101.5)/TRENTON, NJ morning host JIM GEARHART took a call from GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, who updated listeners on a municipal tax increase of 41% in MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ. The call relates to an earlier "Ask The Governor" segment," when a caller brought the matter up to him.
CHRISTIE announced that a DEPT. OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS (DCA) investigation found that the Mayor RICHARD PUCCI’s budget violated the property tax cap -- by increasing his levy more than 500,000 over the cap.
"We’re issuing a letter today to the mayor, directing him to issue corrective property tax bills by NOVEMBER 1st," CHRISTIE said. "Bills that are going to comply with the law. That's going to cut the levy by half-million dollars, and adjust everybody’s property tax bills by NOVEMBER 1st to reduce their property taxes by that level."
