CBS RADIO Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA morning host ANGELO CATALDI has made good on his pledge to donate $10 per home run hit by the PHILLIES this season to the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA's 15th annual RICHIE ASHBURN MEMORIAL HOME RUNS FOR HEART event. The PHILS, despite their disappointing season and injuries to, among others, slugger RYAN HOWARD, hit 158 homers, making CATALDI's donation $1,580.
The event was established in 1997 in memory of ASHBURN, the late Hall of Fame PHILLIES centerfielder and broadcaster, who died of heart disease, and also honors ASHBURN's broadcasting partner HARRY KALAS, who died in 2009. Participants get to come onto the field at CITIZENS BANK PARK and swing for the fences or shag flies, with prizes for most home runs and most points based on distance.
