JOHN ROVICK, who entertained LOS ANGELES children from 1952 to 1970 as KTTV (TV)'s children's show host SHERIFF JOHN, died SATURDAY at a nursing home in BOISE, ID at 93.
ROVICK got his start in radio at WSPD-A/TOLEDO (his hometown) before moving to LOS ANGELES to become Staff Announcer at KTTV in 1949. Enlisted to host a cartoon show, he created the SHERIFF JOHN character, becoming an iconic figure in early television children's television.
After the show was canceled, ROVICK remained at KTTV as Staff Announcer until his 1981 retirement.
