The BBC has apologized for a fake news bulletin on JEREMY VINE's RADIO 2 show that said convicted murderer IAN HUNTLEY had been killed in his prison cell. The bulletin, part of a discussion on plans to make the anti-pedophile law more stringent and the tabloids' role in stirring up public support for the law, was clearly labeled a spoof demonstrating what the news would be like if tabloid editors ran the country, but the report apparently touched off rumors.
VINE read the apology on TUESDAY's show after police complained.
