MIDWEST COMMUNICATIONS Top 40 WDAY (Y94)/FARGO can certainly claim "the buck stops here" after a listener called in complaining about the government putting up deer crossing signs in high-traffic areas. The caller, identified only as DONNA, didn’t seem to grasp that the signs aren't for deer to be told where they can cross -- but for drivers to be warned they're in an area likely to be populated by BAMBI.
"I've even seen [the signs] on the interstate," DONNA told Y94 Playhouse morning show. "Why are we encouraging deer to cross at the interstate?"
"It seems to me that it's so irresponsible of us to allow these deer crossings to be in an area where these deer are so likely to be struck by oncoming traffic, wouldn't you agree?" she asked.
DONNA continued, "The government can direct the deer population anywhere they want to. All they have to do is move that deer crossing sign."
Audio of the initial call made it's way to YOUTUBE, and has been viewed more than 3.5 million times. Check it out here.
Since the initial call, DONNA has returned to the Y94 airwaves to thank ZERO, RAT and MAGGIE for their understanding. She realized her mistake, and said she felt "incredibly stupid."
"I mean honestly, in my defense, I had no clue these signs were for us [humans]," she said. "I never really thought about it enough to realize I was kind of being ridiculous."
