CUMULUS Top 40 WJBQ (Q 97.9)/PORTLAND, ME really "raked it in" during its annual "Q Cans for a Cure" fundraiser event to help fight breast cancer in Maine. Morning team MEREDITH, JEFF and LORI camped out in a tent in THE MAINE MALL parking lot and refused to leave until they reached their goal of 500,000 bottles and cans. Q partner CLYNK, a local recycling center, processed all the bottles and cans; the proceeds then go to local cancer centers.
"It’s amazing to see the outpouring of support from the Q-munity year after year," Q PD MIKE ROVIN said. "This isn’t your standard radiothon fundraiser. There are many moving parts to this and LOTS of manual (and smelly) labor involved. I’m extremely proud of the Q Morning Show for what they’ve accomplished and quite honestly thrilled it’s over so they can go home and take a shower! It’s events like this that showcase The Q’s heritage in the PORTLAND market and just how closely involved with the community we are. All in total The Q and our listeners collected a total of 543,461 bottles and cans which equates to $27,173! All of this money will go to help fund critical research and treatment for breast cancer in MAINE."
