The NAB says that its test of 17 wireless FM modulator devices used to send satellite radio and MP3 player audio through FM car radios showed that 13 of the 17 (76%) exceeded field strength limits set by the FCC. The NAB says that 6 exceeded the FCC field limit by 2,000%, and one device was 20,000% stronger than allowed by FCC rules. THe organization also noted that many of the devices transmitted signals substantially wider in bandwidth than allowed by the FCC.
The NAB has sent letters to FCC Chairman KEVIN MARTIN and Senate Commerce Committee Chairman TED STEVENS (R-AK) and Co-Chairman DANIEL INOUYE (D-HI) with the test results.
