Reporter/anchor MIKE MURILLO of MERLIN Talk WWIQ (IQ 106.9)/PHILADELPHIA checks in with ALL ACCESS to highlight the station's coverage of Hurricane SANDY as it slammed the MID-ATLANTIC region. The station launched its wall-to-wall coverage on SUNDAY afternoon and stuck with it for 36 hours.
Morning team AL GARDNER, LARRY MENDTE, and LIONEL were joined by MURILLO and his sister MICHELLE MURILLO, MITCH MERMAN and DAN LONEY to offer continuous coverage of the devastation as the storm made landfall, opening the lines to callers for eyewitness accounts (including a call from a man who did not evacuate ATLANTIC CITY despite Gov. CHRIS CHRISTIE's orders), interviewing officials, and providing emergency information and aid in finding supplies and gas as stores ran out of essentials (even the region's popular WAWA convenience stores and gas stations, usually open around the clock, closed for the duration).
