"RED" -- the new album from superstar TAYLOR SWIFT -- goes Platinum with first week sales of 1.208 million units, making it the largest sales week for any album in the last 10 years, according to NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN.
This is TAYLOR's second straight album to sell over one million units in the first week -- the other being her second album "SPEAK NOW" which debuted in 2010. And, TAYLOR is the only female artist to have two albums sell more one million units in a week.
TAYLOR tweeted last night: "They just told me Red sold 1.2 million albums first week. How is this real life?! You are UNREAL. I love you so much. Thanks a million ;)."
Upon release last week, "RED" -- on BIG MACHINE -- climbed to #1 on the iTUNES chart -- in just 36 minutes, and debuted #1 on BILLBOARD 200 chart, making it TAYLOR's third chart topper.
Lots of excitement around TAYLOR as her current hit single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," heads for #1 on the Top 40 charts.
