The FCC's Media Bureau has announced the procedures for noncommercial radio and TV stations to get approval for on-air fundraising campaigns for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Such campaigns are prohibited by the rules, but the Commission says it will issue waivers and has already done so in two instances for Sandy relief.
Noncommercial stations seeking to hold fundraisers can file an informal request for a Section 73.503(d) or 73.621(e) waiver, whichever is appropriate, by email to BARBARA KREISMAN for TV stations (barbara.kreisman@fcc.gov), or to PETER DOYLE (peter.doyle@fcc.gov) and MICHAEL WAGNER (michael.wagner@fcc.gov) for radio stations.
The request should include the nature of the fundraising effort; the proposed duration of the fundraising effort; the organization(s) to which funds will be donated; and whether the fundraiser will be part of the licensee’s regularly scheduled pledge drive or fundraising effort.
