CBS RADIO Top 40 WXRK (92.3 NOW FM)/NEW YORK has changed its call letters to WNOW-F effective TODAY (11/8). PD RICK GILLETTE told ALL ACCESS that the station got permission to make the switch as of midnight, although the filing to change the calls has yet to appear in the FCC database as of this morning.
The calls are moving from RADIO ONE's station in CHARLOTTE.
The station has carried the WXRK calls since 1985 (when it flipped from Top 40 WKTU to Rock "92.3 K-ROCK," later Classic Rock with HOWARD STERN in mornings); except for a stint in 2006-07 as Talk WFNY-F (92.3 FREE FM) (with the WXRK calls moving to CLEVELAND on what is now WKRK), the station has been WXRK for the entire time through format shifts through several permutations of Rock and Alternative until the advent of the Top 40 version in 2009.
