Condolences to family and friends of jazz drummer and noncommercial WWOZ/NEW ORLEANS host BOB FRENCH, who died MONDAY at 74, according to the NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE.
FRENCH hosted a morning show on WWOZ while leading the ORIGINAL TUXEDO JAZZ BAND, which he took over from his father ALBERT "PAPA" FRENCH in 1977. He also performed with artists like HARRY CONNICK JR. and BRANFORD MARSALIS, both of whom were involved in "MARSALIS MUSIC Honors BOB FRENCH," a 2007 tribute album. He had been in ill health in recent years and had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease; he retired last year.
