LOTUS COMMUNICATIONS Spanish Sports KWKW-A (1330 AM ESPN DEPORTES)/LOS ANGELES has donated $50,000 to the LOS ANGELES BOYS AND GIRLS CLUP, stepping in with a direct corporate donation when it learned that the club needed funds for afterschool programs. Rather than raise the money from listeners, the station's President JAMES KALMENSON decided that the station should fund the programs itself by adding a line item to its operating budget.
“One of the founding principles of our company has been to be of service to our community,” said KALMENSON. “As a result of the donation, the LOS ANGELES BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB was able to greatly expand its services for the local community. Word quickly spread and the attendance immediately tripled and continues to thrive today.”
The club's Executive Director JUANA LAMBERT added, “KWKW has been instrumental in creating and growing our community by giving our friends and neighbors the opportunity to gather, learn, and grow in a safe, fun and stimulating environment. We’re very fortunate to have such a great partner and look forward to a long future together.”
The station, hoping to keep the community involvement going and to inspire others to give, is running a PSA campaign this month that will continue throughout 2013 and is sponsoring the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB's THANKSGIVING Dinner and will donate 500 toys to the club’s CHRISTMAS Toy Drive, kicking the latter off with a live broadcast on DECEMBER 7th from the club, hosted by ARMANDO AGUAYO, MARIO AMAYA, JALIM ZADAT and ERIKA GARZA, who will also attend the THANKSGIVING event.
