The STRUTHERS SCHOOL DISTRICT is mulling its options for selling or keeping noncommercial WKTL/STRUTHERS-YOUNGSTOWN, OH, which the school district has owned for 47 years.
The YOUNGSTOWN VINDICATOR reports that the board is considering a proposal from broker PATRICK COMMUNICATIONS to sell the station's license, and is also considering a proposal from AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOLS noncommercial WAPS (THE SUMMIT)/AKRON to lease the station.
WAPS presently simulcasts with WKTL SUNDAY through FRIDAY. YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIV. Asst. Professor FRANK SOLE has also proposed a plan, asking the board at a meeting TUESDAY to let a community board run the station. Both the WAPS and SOLE plans include continuing the station's SATURDAY slate of brokered ethnic programming as part of their new schedules.
