SALEM COMMUNICATIONS CORP. has officially launched its new Talk format as CONSERVATIVE TALK 94.5 FM on WMUU/GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG, SC TODAY (12/3), as previously reported (NET NEWS 9/17 and 11/26). The station is being acquired from WMUU, INC. (GOSPEL FELLOWSHIP ASSOCIATION/BOB JONES UNIVERSITY-affiliated) for $3 million ($1 million cash, $2 million in a promissory note) and has been airing a hybrid Beautiful Music/Religion format for many years.
The new lineup includes SALEM-syndicated talkers BILL BENNETT, MIKE GALLAGHER, DENNIS PRAGER, MICHAEL MEDVED and HUGH HEWITT, with CUMULUS' MARK LEVIN on 9p-midnight and NBC affiliate WYFF-TV and former CBS MORNING NEWS co-host and WSPA-TV/GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG, WCAU-TV/PHILADELPHIA, and WGCL-TV/ATLANTA anchor JANE ROBELOT joining in JANUARY to anchor news in the morning.
"It is always exciting to enter a new market in which we have not had an owned and operated station. The GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG-ANDERSON corridor of the UPSTATE of SOUTH CAROLINA is among the most dynamic in the Southeast," said SALEM National President GREG ANDERSON. "It's equally exciting to debut our format and programming on a dominant, crystal clear 100,000 watt signal that will blanket the entire market. For the first time a NewsTalk format will be heard throughout the entire metro market and well beyond. Listeners will be informed and entertained by some of the best talk personalities in the country including longtime GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG personality, MIKE GALLAGHER."
"We're thrilled to have our entire SRN lineup clearing live on CONSERVATIVE TALK 94.5 FM," said SALEM RADIO NETWORK VP/News & Talk Programming TOM TRADUP. "It is especially gratifying to have the UPSTATE's own MIKE GALLAGHER expanding to a full three hours on our new FM Talk station."
