Singer Jenni Rivera Dies In Plane Crash

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications in MEXICO said SUNDAY that no survivors were found in the crash of a small private jet near MONTERREY, MEXICO on which singer JENNI RIVERA was a passenger. The plane, with two pilots and five passengers, took off at about 3:30a (CT) and was taking RIVERA, 43, from MONTERREY, where she performed SATURDAY, to TOLUCA.

RIVERA, a native of LONG BEACH, CA, was a major star of Banda and Nortena music and was well-known for a reality TV show, "I LOVE JENNI," on TELEMUNDO's bilingual MUN2 network, a spinoff of the show "JENNI RIVERA PRESENTS: CHIQUIS AND RAQ-C," which she produced and which starred her daughter.  Her recordings for FONOVISA and UNIVERSAL MUSIC LATIN ENTERTAINMENT have sold 1.2 million albums and 349,000 digital tracks in the U.S., according to NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN figures reported by the LOS ANGELES TIMES, and she hosted the weekly "CONTACTO DIRECTO CON JENNI RIVERA" for several ENTRAVISION COMMUNICATIONS radio stations.  Most recently, she had been signed to a development deal with ABC for a sitcom and had been featured in gossip magazines for reportedly seeking a divorce from her second husband, former major league pitcher ESTEBAN LOAIZA.  Her father PEDRO RIVERA is the founder of the CINTAS ACUARIO label and her brother LUPILLO is also a singer.
