GOOGLE has released a list of their most-searched topics for 2012, and the music industry was highly represented. GOOGLE based the list on "the searches that had the highest amount of traffic over a sustained period of time in 2012 as compared to 2011."
WHITNEY HOUSTON, who passed away on FEBRUARY 12th, topped the 2012 list, triggering the year's biggest spike in U.S. search traffic.
Hurricane Sandy, the Presidential Election, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, Kony and UEFA Euro 2012 were the top non-music related searches.
Korean rapper PSY edged out JUSTIN BIEBER for most-viewed YOUTUBE video of all-time, but more people actually searched for BIEBER's "Boyfriend" on GOOGLE than for "Gangnam Style."
"Call Me Maybe," CARLY RAE JEPSEN's viral single was also one of the top GOOGLE searches.
