CUMULUS Talk WPRO-A-WEAN (NEWS TALK 630 WPRO-A AND 99.7 FM)/PROVIDENCE has inked veteran crosstown NBC affiliate WJAR-TV news anchor GENE VALICENTI as its new 6-9a (ET) morning host for “THE WPRO MORNING NEWS WITH GENE VALICENTI,” starting MONDAY (1/7). VALICENTI, who has been hosting a show on SATURDAY mornings for WPRO since 2010, said, “RHODE ISLAND has been waking up to WPRO since the days of SALTY BRINE. It goes without saying that hosting the WPRO MORNING NEWS is a real honor for me.”
CUMULUS MEDIA SVP/Programming MIKE MCVAY said, “We are very pleased to welcome GENE VALICENTI to WPRO-A. The addition of GENE to the lineup is an important part of CUMULUS’ commitment to providing compelling live and local talk programming to RHODE ISLAND and the SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND listeners.”
Market Manager BARBARA HAYNES said, “This is going to be an excellent program! GENE is an expert at delivering the news, and with the unique talents of BILL HABERMAN and the WPRO and ABC news teams this show will be unmatched during the morning commute.”
PD CRAIG SCHWALB said, “GENE is the rare combination of local experience and longevity that can not be ignored. He is trusted by this city and will be a welcome addition to WPRO for years to come."
