Charges have been brought against a registered nurse regarding the death of MYRTLE BEACH station owner and host BILL NORMAN, who died in OCTOBER of last year (NET NEWS 10/16/2012). THE ASSOCIATED PRESS reports, "Authorities say 53-year-old JANET KUPKA has been charged with giving too much medicine to BILL NORMAN after he was admitted to the GRAND STRAND REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER in OCTOBER to treatment of a stroke."
NORMAN owned (and served as morning host at) Oldies-Beach Music WNMB-A (where he was on the air in 1972-79, then returned to buy the station in 2000) and co-owned Classic Hits-Beach Music WVCO (THE SURF 94.9 FM)/MYRTLE BEACH. He also formerly owned WKZY-A/ALBEMARLE, NC.
Authorities began investigating Norman's death after receiving a report from hospital officials that the 63-year-old announcer may have been over medicated.
Kupka was charged and released on a $20,000 bond.
