Here's one way to find the money to pay for one of the most expensive sports rights deals in radio history: ENTERCOM/BOSTON will sell the name of the RED SOX RADIO NETWORK for an asking price of several million dollars a year, reports the BOSTON GLOBE. The winning sponsor will have its name inserted in the on-air name of the network ("The WEEI/WRKO (Sponsor Name) RED SOX RADIO NETWORK").
The move is not unprecedented but, like the close to $14 million per year the SOX will get for radio rights under the new deal, the price tag for the network naming rights is expected to be one of the biggest in local sports broadcasting.
